More Women than Men: If Not Now, When?

Women and men are bearers of different identities determining different behaviors, aspirations, and social images. The two speakers will use statistics to explore the consequence of such diversity that unquestionably benefit men: in no world country are women a significant presence in decision-making and in political power while men stay home. Recent research has shown that if full equality were achieved in terms of employment, pay, and recognition of merits, Europe’s GDP would increase by 30 percent. The possible advantages of overcoming such inequalities are therefore undisputable. Women are more and more thoroughly committed to proving their abilities and are indeed gaining ground, but are weighed down by the so-called ‘glass ceiling’ that hinders their advancement. How much longer must we wait before equality is attained? At the current pace, one century will not be enough.
