Free eventThere is no human without other human beings, and every person is part of humanity, part of a reality in which there are other people. Dialogue is indispensable if we want to continue living in this world, which would become uninhabitable without peace and justice. The wounds inflicted on society by behaviour unworthy of humans risk becoming fatal and could jeopardise the very survival of democracy and the pluralist society. When faced with the disheartening image of a society now unable to listen to itself, dominated by self-worship and barbaric behaviour in the form of hate-filled words and gestures, we see the urgent need to identify a spirituality that shows humanity is one. Spirituality not in the strictly religious sense, but as a profound interior life, a commitment to human affairs, research into truly serving others, paying attention to the aesthetic dimension and the creation of beauty in human relations.

Enzo Bianchi is the founder of the ecumenical Bose monastic community. He taught Biblical Theology at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan and was awarded a honoris causa degree in Political Science from the University of Turin and in Gastronomic Science from the University of Pollenzo. He collaborates with newspapers and publications including La Stampa, la Repubblica, Avvenire and Jesus. He participated at the Synods discussing The Word of God (2008) and New Evangelisation (2012). Pope Francis appointed him as a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and as a “listener” on the Bishops’ Synod on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment (2018). His works include: Il pane di ieri (2008), L’altro siamo noi (2010), Fede e fiducia (2013), Dono e perdono (2014) and Gesù e le donne (2016) all published by Einaudi; Raccontare l’amore (Rizzoli, 2015); L’amore scandaloso di Dio (2016) and L’arte di scegliere (2018) publisher San Paolo; and La vita e i giorni (il Mulino, 2018).
